At first glance, this might seem absurd. Heck, Dan might spit out his coffee at the thought of this. Dan Russell on the TEAM 1040? How so? Could it ever happen?
I am suggesting it “should” happen, not that it “will” happen.
If you’ve heard the audio clip on CKNW where David Pratt speaks about the “other” radio station and the fact that they are owned and or closely related to the Vancouver Canucks, then you know what I mean. It’s called credibility. If the opinions on air are unbiased, it’s better for the listener. If you’re listening to an infomercial, you can’t take what’s being said seriously. In the Vancouver market, nobody has necessarily called out the TEAM 1040. The ad by David Pratt is clearly the most hard hitting and critical commentary. Sure, Dan has been suggesting for years about the Team 1040 and their pom pom waving, etc. Dan is pretty clear how he feels about the other guys and the bias on that “other” radio station.
If the Team 1040 did the unthinkable and sign Dan Russell, it would be a move in the right direction. If they care about perception or the threat of lost credibility, then they should consider adding Dan. There is no question that it sounds bizarre. Adding the so-called enemy to your line-up seems somewhat illogical. Perhaps it’s too far fetched to be considered.
What I can say is that CKNW isn’t renewing Dan Russel’s Sportstalk and it’s over for him in August. If Dan can’t get on the Team 1040, where the heck does he go? Is he finished in this market? That’s hard to imagine but I will say there is a segment of listeners out there who have had enough of his negativity towards the Canucks and the organization.
If not Team 1040, then what for Dan Russell? Your thoughts are welcome.
